Andy Raven ~ urban folk

Australian skies

From the red earth next to the craggy rocks
to the mangroves along the harbour docks
Where the kookaburra sings his song
and the platypus swims in the billabong

Trees breathe, mountains sigh underneath Australian skies.

And your eyes roam as far as they can
from the back seat of a VW van
trees breathe, mountains sigh underneath Australian skies.

Verandahs of colonial bars look out across this ancient land
And its true that nature takes its course,
This kind of landscape can’t be planned.

Trees breathe, mountains sigh under vast Australian skies

From Australian skies the sun beats down
And the surf cools the toes of the sand.
There are diamonds sparkling in Byron bay
and the stars at night are as bright as the day.

The rain falls in a million drops
On the lush green heights of the Barrington tops.
You detour the fords when the rivers swell
And if the leeches land you they’ll suck like hell.

Your eyes roam as far as they can
From the back seat of a VW van
Trees breathe, mountains sigh under vast Australian skies.

Snow gums soar up out of reach
Where possums climb and koalas lie,
All are one here underneath the vast Australian sky.

Your eyes roam as far as they can
From the back seat of a VW van.
Trees breathe, mountains sigh underneath Australian skies.
